Ahsoka Young Adult Novel Coming in October

Today, the Nerdist released the announcement of the upcoming young adult novel "Ahsoka."  The LucasFilm press release was featured on their site.
From Disney-Lucasfilm Press:

Ahsoka Tano, fan favorite character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, will be the star of her own young adult novel from Disney Lucasfilm Press this October 11, 2016! Fans have long wondered what happened to Ahsoka after she left the Jedi Order near the end of the Clone Wars, and before she re-appeared as the mysterious Rebel operative Fulcrum in Rebels. Finally, her story will begin to be told. Following her experiences with the Jedi and the devastation of Order 66, Ahsoka is unsure she can be part of a larger whole ever again. But her desire to fight the evils of the Empire and protect those who need it will lead her right to Bail Organa, and the Rebel Alliance….

“Ahsoka has a long history, and there is much more to it than the fans know,” says Dave Filoni, Executive Producer/Supervising Director [of Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars]. “I have always worked on her story, even parts that I know we will probably never see on screen. By broadening her story from the animated series to the written page, I feel we have a real opportunity to provide fans with details about her character that they would not know otherwise. We are also responding to the strong fan support that we have seen Ahsoka receive over the last eight years. The fans want more Ahsoka and we are going to give it to you, and since I’ve been there since the beginning I am dedicated to working with publishing to help make this book as authentic a part of her story as if we filmed it for the series.”

Acclaimed author and Star Wars fan E.K. Johnston has been tapped to pen the novel to bring Ahsoka’s untold story to the legions of fans who demanded it. “Writing for Ahsoka is tremendously exciting. She has a blank spot in her story that I know a lot of fans (including myself!) want to see filled in. And being able to help tell her story is a dream come true.”
One thing that this press release does not mention, is whether or not this novel is based on or adapted from the untold Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes featuring Ahsoka.

Yesterday, a Dave Filoni in an interview with Eric Goldman was released at IGN.  In the interview, he said that the final story arc of the Clone Wars would have featured Ahsoka facing off against Darth Maul.
"It is the last story arc of the Clone Wars TV series that we were doing, was this story about Ahsoka and how she crosses with Maul. What was significant about that was that it was the story that was really going to draw her possibly back into the Jedi Order, because the motivation around this conflict with Maul was her knowing the personal history between Maul and Obi Wan, who was their dear friend. So she was caught up in that, and basically she says point, “The last time I saw Anakin, he was rushing off to save the Chancellor.” She was actually planning with Obi Wan and Anakin the capture and attack that would get them Maul, because she had figured out where he was towards the end of the Clone War. But before they can go through with this plan together, Obi Wan and at one Anakin get called away to Coruscant to save the Chancellor, which leaves her with Rex – and some other exciting characters – to basically go and deal with Darth Maul, once and for all. That’s kind of a good brief of what that was about.Read more at IGN.

Three Years Ago Today Star Wars The Clone Wars Was Cancelled

On this day three years ago, LucasFilm announced their "new direction for LucasFilm animation" and cancelled Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  Their announcement stated that "LucasFilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming," that "we feel the time has come to wind down the series," and that "fans can soon find this bonus content."

Two years ago on March 7, 2014, the "bonus content" was released on Netflix as "The Lost Missions."  These 13 episodes featured some of the best episodes of the series, and showed how the quality of the animation and storytelling continued to improve as the series went along.

Over the past two years via The Clone Wars Legacy, LucasFilm has released twenty more episodes in various formats.  Eight episodes have been released as story reels, via StarWars.com.  Four episodes were adapted into the comic mini-series "Star Wars: Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir."  Eight episodes were adapted into the novel "Star Wars: Dark Disciple."

There are still dozens of stoires that remain untold.  See the recent post "Approximately 36 Clone Wars Stories Remain Untold" for more details.

Continue to let Disney and LucasFilm know that there is an interest and a demand for these stories!  Watch the series on Netflix or buy DVDs and Blurays.  Send your letters, emails, tweets and comments to Disney and LucasFilm.

Thanks again to Jimmy Mac for being the first to sound the alarm.  Thanks to Rebel Force Radio, Jimmy Mac and Jason Swank, for the episode, "RebelForce Radio: Special Report - Save The Clone Wars" that was released on this day three years ago.
