The Wookiee Agrees

Encouraging word for the day.  The #SaveTheCloneWars twitter campaign continues, and thanks to a fellow Clone Wars fan @irturner's tweet to him, we got a response from Peter Mayhew.  Nice to have an original trilogy, prequel trilogy, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars veteran tweet us.

Thanks Mr. Mayhew, and as Han Solo said, "Punch it Chewie."

We appreciate Disney and LucasFilm and are looking forward to
the sequel trilogy; however, we love The Clone Wars!  We want more than bonus content! We want the many stories that the creators have set out to tell to be completed. We ask that the powers that be to please reconsider this decision.

#SaveTheCloneWars and Bonus Content Revealed?

Earlier today, thanks to Star Wars Underworld many Clone Wars fans were engaged in what was referred to as a #SaveTheCloneWars twitter protest.  I saw hundreds of tweets asking @Disney to #SaveTheCloneWars, and I tweeted and retweeted more than I can count.  We hope that this event will get the attention of Disney and let them see how passionate Clone Wars fans are.

This evening, TheForce.Net is reporting that some insiders at LucasFilm Animation have leaked some information about the upcoming "bonus content." They also have some news of what will we miss is production is not restarted.  In their post entitled "Report: TCW Bonus Content To Be Two Story Arcs," they reported the following:
"A source in the know tells me that Lucasfilm is only finishing two story arcs from the material that they had planned for The Clone Wars Season Six. Among the story arcs that will not emerge in this post-cancellation era is one that dealt with Boba Fett and the other bounty hunters who have menaced the heroes for several seasons. This story arc, which my source tells me was almost done, would have shown us the fates of Cad Bane and Aurra Sing." Source: TheForce.Net
We have to assume that the Rush Clovis arc that was pushed back from season five will be one of the two arcs, and from the video Dave posted, the other arc may be a clone-centric one.

TheForce.Net's article also included a mention that some at  LucasFilm Animation felt that the fan response was "tepid."  Many fans were probably lulled into a false sense of security by PR speak of the press release and Dave's video. Thanks to Jimmy Mac for sounding the alarm earlier than anyone else I follow.  Were it not for he and Jason on Rebel Force Radio, I wouldn't have been as vocal in our campaign to #SaveTheCloneWars or in my support of the cast and crew of Clone Wars.

My Second Letter to Mr. Bob Iger

Today, I mailed my second letters to Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy. I will post the contents of my letter to Mr. Iger below.  My first letters were hand written and not quite as in depth as these new ones. Oh course at that time, there were only rumors of the cancellation of The Clone Wars.  I hope all of you who are passionate about The Clone Wars and about the Lucas era of Star Wars have reached out, to to Disney and LucasFilm, and will continue to do so.
March 20, 2013

Mr. Bob Iger
Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company
Disney Studios
500 S Buena Vista St.
Burbank, CA 91521

Dear Mr. Iger,

Please save The Clone Wars.

I am a 35 year old man who has literally grown up with Star Wars, and I have never known a world without it.  I was glad to hear that with Disney’s purchase of LucasFilm more Star Wars movies are coming soon.

As a huge fan of the show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I’m writing this letter, and I have included a string of beads inspired by Ahsoka Tano’s Padawan braid, to express my desire for this show to continue.  We know the show has been cancelled, and the latest reports are that the team that makes this wonderful series is being disbanded.  I hope you realize that this is a big mistake.

The voice actors have brought these beloved characters to life in new ways.  As a fan of the show, the actors like James Arnold Taylor, Matt Lanter, Dee Bradley Baker, Ashley Eckstein, and Tom Kane have added a depth and realism to the beautiful animation.  Also, these generous people have been very kind to Star Wars fans, and they have made great ambassadors for the Star Wars brand.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is very popular, and it has introduced a new generation to the property that Disney purchased. This whole new generation of Star Wars fans will be greatly disappointed since their “Star Wars” has been cut short.

I love Star Wars and have been reaching out on social media, Twitter and Facebook, to other fans who are also using the hashtag #SaveTheCloneWars.  Last week, I started SaveTheCloneWars.com to spread the word about the campaign to try to get you to change your mind.  We have had thousands of people visit our website, Facebook, and twitter.  Many of my fellow Star Wars fans have told us and even sent us picture of their letters that they were sending in, and some have also sent us pictures of the beads that they are sending as well.

I kindly ask you to please give Star Wars: The Clone Wars the chance it deserves and allow these wonderfully talented people that create the show to have the chance to complete it the way that Dave Filoni and George Lucas intended.

Sincerely,
Jimmy Tucker

Act Now To Save The Clone Wars!

Now is the time to act before it is to late. If you truly are passionate about The Clone Wars send you letters, emails, tweets and comments now.  We are suggesting sending strands of beads inspired by Ahsoka's Braid along with your letters to Disney and LucasFilm.

Jedi News and Rebel Force Radio reported earlier today, in the article Let's save The Clone Wars NOW - it's our ONLY hope!, that the Clone Wars team will be disbanded imminently and now is our very last chance to save The Clone Wars.
"The remaining episodes that are finished or in part-production do NOT in any way wrap up the fates of the Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Darth Maul, Asajj Ventress and many others.  If you want these stories to be told that we must act NOW as a community before it’s too late – time is NOT on our side."  Read more at Jedi News.
TheForce.Net had even more dire news in their story posted this afternoon, in the article entitled The Clone Wars Team Reportedly Being Disbanded.  Their sources indicate that many of the talented people who bring The Clone Wars to life will be losing their jobs, and that there is no guaranteeing we will even see the promised "bonus content."
"One source familiar with developments at Lucasfilm told me that the changes at Lucasfilm Animation go beyond The Clone Wars team. This individual described a dramatic downsizing of the entire division and said that Disney planned to place future Star Wars TV projects in the hands of its existing television operation. While the source did not name names, it appears likely that veterans of the animation division and The Clone Wars in particular may be leaving the company." Read more at TheForce.Net.

Was Clone Wars Intended for 8 Seasons?

We want more than bonus content.  We want the natural conclusion of The Clone Wars as envisioned by George Lucas, Dave Flioni and the writers for the series.  According to two recent articles "STAR WARS: James Arnold Taylor and Cat Taber Discuss the End of The Clone Wars" from Big Shiny Robot and "The 'End' of the Clone Wars Series Has Been Revealed" from Star Wars Underworld, Star Wars: The Clone Wars was intended to have 8 seasons and transition to Episode III.

After James Arnold Taylor's recent interview on the Full of Sith podcast, Big Shiny Robot reported the following:
"James and Cat talked about what the plan for The Clone Wars was (8 seasons!), what they would have liked to see happen with the final seasons (ABCs next to Once Upon a Time!) and what their experience with the show over the course of their career has been like." Source: Big Shiny Robot.
The full interview will Full of Sith Podcast can be found here.  Around 3:45 into podcast episode, James Arnold Taylor begins sharing that the cast thought that the series would continue for about 8 seasons, and that he thinks most of the work has been completed for season 6.

The article from StarWarsUnderworld.com focuses on a series of tweets from Brent Freidman, writer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, from earlier this year.  An excerpt from the article is posted below:
"This exchange [tweets from Freidman] has fueled much speculation among fans about when the series will end, with some suggesting that Seasons 6 or 7 may be the final one. However there are a few reasons to believe that the Clone Wars will not conclude anytime soon."
The StarWarsUnderworld.com article also gleans some information from an interview that Jimmy Mac had with Christian Taylor, writer of the epic Mortis trilogy for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, at the season four premiere which was posted to YouTube on September 11, 2011.
"...writer Christian Taylor stated that, "We are 3 years ahead of you guys. We've already written season 6." It logically follows then that Season 8 is already in early writing stages."  Source:  Star Wars Underworld.  The full video of the interview is posted below.

Thanks to Clonewarsfan1 who brought these two articles to our attention.

What Should We Send in to Disney?

In the past, fans of Roswell sent in hot sauce, fans of Jericho sent in peanuts, and fans of Reaper sent in socks in successful campaigns to get their beloved shows renewed.  What item(s) should we start sending to Disney to try to get their attention in our attempt to Save The Clone Wars?

I had the idea of sending in strings of beads, inspired by Ahsoka's Padawan bead braid.  A poll has been posted on our Facebook page, where you can vote for one of the options there or add an idea of your own.

In the meantime, you can send your enthusiastic courteous letters to Disney and to LucasFilm to the addresses listed below.

Disney Has Changed Their Minds Before

Let's Save The Clone Wars!  There is a long list of animated and live action shows that have been saved by fans sending letters and sometimes other things into the networks.  There is a list of successful and unsuccessful campaigns over at tvtropes.org.

In the list, there are two examples of Disney changing their minds.  Once about cancellation of an animated show and once about what extras to include on an anime DVD.

Kim Possible, a Disney channel animated series about a teenage crime fighter voiced by Christy Carlson Romano, was saved by the fans for a fourth and final season.
"Kim Possible fans organized a letter-writing campaign to save the show, and it was brought back for a fourth and final season."  Source: tvtropes.org
SaveKimPossible.com tells the story of how they reached out to Disney via online email petitions and hand written letters, which eventually lead to the renewal for another season of the show.

Another success story was for the fans of Princess Mononoke.
"When Disney/Buena Vista put out their release plans for the home video and DVD release of Princess Mononoke fans were upset that the DVD would not include a subtitled Japanese track. A letter writing campaign and petition mobilized by the Naussica.net mailing list sucessfuly convinced them otherwise; apparently they had no idea there was a demand for it."  Source:  tvtropes.org
Both of these campaigns were in the days before social media.  Let's keep writing letters, sending e-mails (Bob Iger, President and CEO of the Walt Disney Company, robert.a.iger@disney.com), tweeting @Disney, and using the hash tag #SaveTheCloneWars!  Let's Save The Clone Wars!

James Arnold Taylor on the End of The Clone Wars

Within hours of the announcement about the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, James Arnold Taylor (voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi on the Clone Wars) posted his thoughts about the cancellation of the series on his website.  A brief excerpt of the message is posted below.
"A call from Clone Wars Producer Cary Silver and our Supervising Director Dave Filoni, letting me know that for all of us, the Star Wars journey would be coming to an end.  After nearly a decade of production and five seasons on the air, “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” as a television show, has been cancelled.  My heart sank."  Please visit http://www.JamesArnoldTaylor.com to read more.
Within days of the announcement, James appeared on both the Full of Sith Podcast as well as a special episode of Rebel Force Radio.  On the episode of Full of Sith, Katherine Taber (voice of Padmé Amidala on The Clone Wars) also appeared and shared her thoughts about the end of the series.  Check out both of these Star Wars podcasts to hear more of his thoughts about Clone Wars and the future.

Save The Clone Wars

A few days ago, LucasFilm Animation announced the end of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a TV show on StarWars.com.  Their announcement stated that " Lucasfilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming," that "we feel the time has come to wind down the series," and that "fans can soon find this bonus content."  Bonus content makes it sound that the new content will be released on StarWars.com instead of being a season of the show or direct to DVD/Blu-Ray movies.

We appreciate Disney and LucasFilm and are looking forward to the sequel trilogy;  however, we love The Clone Wars!  We want more than bonus content!  We want the many stories that the creators have set out to tell to be completed.  We ask that the powers that be to please reconsider this decision.

We have embedded the YouTube video below that was posted along with the announcement.

Check out the recent RebelForce Radio episode, "RebelForce Radio: Special Report - Save The Clone Wars" released on March 11th in which Jimmy Mac and Jason Swank are encouraging fans to write letters to Disney and LucasFilm.
